Since you didn't specify what type of stores, and considering the economy, and I'm guessing maybe you're on the young / inexperienced side, you want to apply everywhere.
I know that doesn't sound like great advice, but honestly, it's going to be hit or miss right now. I'd go to all the shops and restaurants in Sierra Madre, especially if you know people there. Then I'd check out Pasadena. If you have any special talents, see if you can get a job using that skill. If you are in school, speak to a counselor, sometimes they know about jobs you couldn't get otherwise.
You might try Target, you can look online to see if there are openings.
Some places you might not know about:
Gerrish Swim Club (NY & Altadena) usually hires high school kids and some a bit older. (626) 798-9909
Tom Sawyer Camp http://www.tomsawyercamps.com
SummerKids Camp http://www.summerkids.net
Sierra Madre is looking for a pool cashier: http://cityofsierramadre.com/index.php?mod=employment
Pasadena has employment info on their website: http://agency.governmentjobs.com/pasadena/default.cfm

Altadena Town & Country Club http://www.altaclub.com/
Good luck!

2. we have two small dogs comming with us, most beache campgorunds dont allow dogs
3. a lot of the forests around us[we live in bakersfield, ca.] are on fire.
we have no idea where to go, PLEASE HELP!!!!

Check out the book called California Camping by Tom Stienstra. I call it my camping bible. You don't have to buy it, just go to your favorite bookstore with pad and pencil in hand. I'm sure you could find what you are looking for in this book. My favorite camping on the beach with dogs is Doran beach up here in Bodega Bay, but that may be too far for you to drive and it is probably booked anyways.
