Please recommend an 8 or 10 person family tent for us!?

I am heartbroken. I was going to order the Columbia Cougar Flats 2 and now it has been discontinued.

Can anyone recommend a tent that would be big enough for me, my husband who is 6'4 tall, and 3 children? My youngest will be sleeping in a pack and play.

Would like a bathtub floor, good ventilation. A canopy over the front door would be a great bonus. I like the idea of divided rooms.

We are not camping anywhere very cold.. but would need something that will stand up to rain.

Thank you.

Answer
My current family tent would satisfy all of those preferences with the exception of the canopy over the door. However, the lacking canopy has proven to only be a problem when going in and out while it is actually raining, and...really...how much are you going to actually do that?

The straight vertical walls allow for more usable floorspace (especially for things like a pack-n-play), it has a hanging divider, and even two doors. The doors are excellent for camping with kids because they are a hard D-frame with a hinge and velcro, so the kids can easily go in and out without having to zip/unzip/zip/unzip. You can zip up the doors when you want/need to, but you don't have to do it every time.

Big windows on three sides and doors on the fourth side have rather large windows as well. The entire top is mesh. I've never had a problem in the wind and/or rain in this tent.

The tent is very tall (I'm 6'3" so that's a requirement for me as well), and hands-down the easiest tent to setup that I have ever owned. Not exaggering when I say that I can easily setup this tent in 15 minutes by myself, including all guylines. It's also just as easy to break down, and it's the only tent I've owned that actually folds up SMALLER than it came from the store, so you can actually fit additional accessories in the original storage bag in addition to the tent.

It's made by Coleman but only sold in Target stores. If there's not a store near you, they usually offer free shipping on something priced that high. I've seen it on sale as cheap as $150, but it's usually $185-200.

camping tents?

what are some good quality camping tents

Answer
The best are made by a company called The North Face, but can be quite expensive. We camp all the time, and have a Coleman family tent, an Ozark Trail tent (from Wal-mart, I think made by Coleman), and an REI back-packer's 2-man tent. If you have any sporting goods store nearby (Bass Pro Shop has an excellent assortment), go in and talk to a sales person. Keep in mind that the size of the tent (how many people it sleeps) is a very crowded fit. For 4 people to be comfy, with duffelbags inside, you really need an 8-person tent. Keep in mind, too, seasonality, the type of material the floor is made of (you don't want it to tear if you have to put it up on a gravel or rocky area), and weight.

Tentant won't remove property from yard?

Anonymous

I own a 2 family home which I live in 1 of the units. The tenant has left property in the yard and I want it removed. I have asked that he remove it on several occasions and he ignores my requests. There are several empty buckets and milk crates and they make the yard look disgusting. Can I legally remove these items. The lease states that the yard must be keep clean.

Answer
I own a triplex in Alaska and I must say, do NOT use a property manager just to manage one unit for you, 10% of the rent they collect can really cut into your own earnings and the most obvious reason not to hire one is YOU LIVE THERE. You have to put up with the person that they would end up renting to. I am currently asking tenants to move who have for the most part been "great tenants" they keep their place immaculate but they are childish. I've asked them to remove their camping gear and tent off the front deck bc they hang them out to dry for days (along with their cooler) and they argue with me about their stuff. They are not allowed to have pets, the guy saw me with my new puppy and said, "Why do you get to have pets, does this mean that I get to have a dog?" I've asked them time and time again to keep their vehicles parked far enough from the building so that I can bring the lawnmower up and have clearance to get it around the building to mow. They complain that they can't park right up to the building, (having their vehicle 2 inches from their door as if it would help them get in faster after work). I've updated all my units to include the doors and trim flooring and kitchen cabinets. EVERYTHING is nice in my units and I get the top rents for them, the exterior is always manicured and I take care of everything but these two idiots, are NEVER satisfied. Just this month I gave them a late fee bc I didn't get their rent until the 5th. Rents are due on the 1st it's late on the 2nd and you get a late fee on the 3rd. They were out of town and called me when they received their late fee to complain that "Wells Fargo took our money out on the 29th of last month you saw that our money was drafted, so why did you give us a late fee?" I explained to them that I don't know how Wells Fargo does their payments and I can't tell you how your rent check got here on the 5th bc I don't deliver the mail. You need to call Wells Fargo and find out what their process is but you are still being charged the late fee. They are NEVER satisfied. The other two units I have are being rented out in the same complex as these losers and I NEVER hear from them, they pay their rents two days before they are due and they mind their own business and keep their places looking great.

What jobs were offered for woman in the 18th century?

Tauqeer Bo

Answer
The Industrial Revolution began in the 18h Century in the UK..
The mills were full of women --- and children --- especially the textile mills -- spinning cotton, making thread, cloth for clothes, industrial fabric for tents, sails, and such..
Colonial Williamsburg, Philadelphia, and Boston, among other places in the Colonial America, had many female owned businesses and shops ---- dress makers, seamstresses, commercial seamstresses that totally catered to the military and naval industry with uniforms, flags, banners, and such.
Remember Betsy Ross -- Her family of professional seamstresses was only one of several in town.
Many women were professional bakers and confectioneers.
Women had many professional and even technical roles in family businesses, especially if the family was small.
If the male of the family business was a skilled craftsman, many times it was the female who was the business accountant and bookkeeper and the handler of the merchants. (many successful 'family' businesses employed other craftsmen and non-famly employees)
Weaving, Crocheting, Needleworking, Tatting (lace makers) -- huge businesses almost totally female.
Women traded as merchants of all kinds without her husband's or father's authorization in businesses from dry grades to jewelry to livestock.
It was not unusual to find a female merchant or tradeswoman, literate and in possession of guild membership, married to a lawyer or craftsman.
Many women were mercers (haberdashers), whole-cloth merchants and fish vendors --- half were female.
The academic professionals --- nurses, nursemaids (for elderly individuals), tutors, teachers.
Domestics --- cooks, maids, housekeepers (women who ran household staffs), nannies, governesses.
The job of the professional laundress was huge --- every large household, school, military academy, military unit had a professional laundress or two or three.
A great many innkeepers were female in the 18th century --- bar maids and servers also.
Workers in the Sex Industry -- not simply prostitutes but in professional "gentleman's' clubs and bordellos -- many entertained with musical and singing abilities, full time cooks, laundresses, and service staff were employed right along with the "service girls".. (A town of sufficient size had several of these type establishments employing 10 to 30 females, half of which was purely non-sexual)

A combination of the growth of Colonial America, the rise of the British Empire, the Industrial Revolution beginning in the UK, and the Seven Years' War --- western females took a huge step into the professional world in the 18th Century.

prizes for camp games?

aalisha73

I'm organizing the sports component of a youth summer camp (ages 13-17). We're doing an olympic/amazing race challenge everyday in teams, and at the end of the camp we'll tally up the scores and give prizes on a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd basis. What are some good prizes to give? We have a $200 budget.

Answer
MP3 shuffles, gift cards to a music store or something, gift cards to a sports place, a bike (depending on the price), 50 donated to them for something at their school. (I don't know if that makes sense, but have it where if they need 50 for some classes, its right there for them)
Or money....money is great cause they can do what they want with it.

Where can I camp in wilderness in Michigan?

brian

I'm looking for a place to set up camp in Michigan's lower peninsula. Is there a place I can camp that's in the middle of the wilderness, miles from anywhere or anything? Preferably near a lake or river. If it has to be a campground, is there such a thing as a campground without any hookup or facilities, that has at least a half mile inbetween campers? Thanks.

Answer
Have you ever considered the Bruce Trail on Ontario?? If you're in eastern Mich, it's not all that far. Look on a map...hwy 2 all the way to Tobemore. It's right on the Georgian Bay... absolutely unspoiled and pristine. You actually have to hike in to the trail... ho facilities at all. You'd love it if you really want seclusion.

Where are some good campsites near Toronto, Canada?

volcomflip

I was wondering if anyone knows a few good places to camp around Toronto? The thing is that I'll be up there Oct. 10 - 15 and a lot of the camp grounds that I saw were closed in October.

Answer
The "camping season " in Ontario is just about over by that time , due to the weather getting colder at night. You use the term "up there " so I will assume that you are from the USA ?

By that time it will be getting down to the freezing point, over night, and it starts to rain more often, so I'd really re-consider the idea of sleeping out in a tent. Try a motel, instead.

Provincial campgrounds ( think State Park ) close from September to April, and most private operations do too.

camping?...?

Pug Lov

i dont know if i should take my 2 pugs with my family were going camping for my birthday and i love both of them but at the camp grounds you cant leave your dog alone because they think the'll "disturb wildlife" and they cant be on a leash longer than 6ft
so then i feel bad because i dont think i could take them in the tent, and i dont wanna leave them outside tied up because im not sure what wild animals there are.
PLEASE HELP!!!
im like really confused

p.s. it would be a 1.5 hr drive in the car
i cant put a run because it will ruin the soil thats what it said and i dont wanna leave them in a kennel and i read that there are racoons, and opossioms
well i guess i could put them in the tent but the thing is that there brother and sister and im kinda afraid that hes gonna try to.... and he barks at cats and other animals in my backyard
they will be 2 years old (human years)
in December
my mom dosent want to spray daisy (my girl pug) because she is white w/ brown spots and maby wants to breed her but we are going to neuter bandit (my boy pug) and i want to bring them this would be their 1st camping trip and i think they would enjoy it

Answer
We take our dogs camping all the time and they love it. When they see us getting out the camping supplies they go crazy. If yo are that concerned kennel them or have someone watch them while you go but they love it! Here is what we take when we bring our Deaf Jack Russell Terrier and Lab/Pointer Mix camping with us:
extendable leashes 1 for each dog

short leashes 1 for each dog ( good for being in canoes)

chains or rope to tie to tree or bumper of van so the dogs can be outside with us when we are at the campsite and they can't run loose

Water and food bowls

plastic bags to pick up poop

first aid kit for dogs (most pet stores carry them)

collapseable pen- you can find these at pet stores and places like that. They fold up so they don't take up uch room when you aren't using them. They unfold and they are usually 4x4 so they can be comfortable. my only suggestion would be to get stakes of some kind to secure the pen to the ground so they can't knock it over

Plenty of toys

Towels and blankets for them to lay on and clean them up when they get in the tent with you

Treat them for ticks/fleas a few days before you leave. I like Advantix because it keeps, ticks, fleas, mosquitos and all the babies off. Vet or Pet Store

Plenty of treats for them

Keep this stuff in a separate bag or tupperware container. That way you have it ready whenever you go camping again or are going out of town with the dogs. My two know what their bag looks like and they get really excited when we take it out because they know they are going somewhere. The only other advice I can give is make sure that you watch the pugs eyes when walking around in the woods or anything. As you know their eyes bug out and they can get hurt easliy. Other than that have fun and take them with you. They will love it and you will too.

free camping near Indian Lake, Adirondacks?

operation8

I know there's a DEC place on the shore for 20/night but this is just a two person trip for four days and it'd be great to save the money. anywhere near Indian Lake is good, we just want to be in that area because its in the middle of some decent hikes. Anywhere you know of that's free in the Adirondacks, let me know because I'll eventualy take advantage of it since I try to go twice a year.

Answer
You do not have to pay for primitive camping. You have to be at least 150 feet off the road and you can camp on any state land in this area. You need a permit if you camp for more than 3 nights in the same location (just call the forest ranger for the free permit.) This is not a national forest and it is a long way from Green Mountain with is in VT. This is the Adirondack Park which is the largest state park in the lower 48 (6 million acres). You only have to pay in maintained campsites with bathrooms (outhouses). Be aware that there is very little in the way of shopping in this area so make sure you bring everything you need. There are general stores in the villages but they do not carry much. Your nearest real shopping is in the Glens Falls region which is 1 1/2 hours away. You cannot carry firewood into this area unless it has been treated. They will arrest you and take the wood. Local wood for campers is fairly expensive and you cannot carry it more than 50 miles (they are trying to prevent the spread of a beetle that kills maple trees). A camp stove to cook on is the best bet. Keep track or where you are and where the road is. Make sure you tell the forest ranger where you are camping and put a note on your windshield. People get lost every year. Cell phones do not work in the Adirondacks. You can camp anywhere that you can get your car off the road.

Call the Forest Ranger (Forest Rangers in Region 5 - (518) 897-1303). They will give you specifics. You are supposed to tell them if you are camping so they know where to look if you don't come back. They can also tell you how to know if the land is state land (most of it is in this area). Finally, what for predators. Do not put food out overnight. You can hang your food from a tree or leave it in your car. The two worse problems are bears and skunks. Coyotes tend to run from people. Bears usually do not bother you unless you leave food out. Pepper spray can be carried but most people do not bother. This is a huge forest that is left in it's original state and cannot be developed. It is beautiful.

Campgrounds near Edmonton Alberta?

Sky

We don't want to drive more than 4 hours away from where we live (Camrose AB) or from Edmonton. And yes I searched "campgrounds near Edmonton" on here and got ONE.

Anyways, we wanted to go to gull lake but it's been booked for months. Is there any place (lake not an asset, neither is electricity) near us that we could go to? We are tenting (8 of us) with two vehicles for transportation. We spontaneously decided to go camping so no we couldn't book any place.

We want to go July 16-18 so quick and helpful answers is appreciated :) experience in a place would be nice, but not needed. Please no sites!!! Unless they are the campground's site. Thanks :)

Canoe camping in Alberta/BC mountains?

Marcus

Hi there. I'm looking to do a 3 or 4 day (2 or 3 nights) canoe camping trip somewhere in the mountains this summer, preferably in the Alberta rockies, since I live in Edmonton. I'm looking for a lake in the mountains with beautiful scenery and places to camp along the lake shore. Can anyone suggest any good lakes to do this? Thanks very much.

Answer
A few summers ago, my family went to the Lower Kananaskis Lake. It is by far my favorite lake! The scenery is Absolutely stunning. You're surrounded by mountains!

We got a camping spot right on the lake, so were were canoeing and kayaking everyday. There is a little tiny island with a picnic table that we went out to for picnics. There is also a waterfall that is really nice!

The entire campground has many biking trails. Unfortunately, when we went there, they were closed due to bear season, so I recommend going before August, but after early June because of the low water levels. There is also a canoe/ kayak rental place not too far away. As well as a showering facility. The water is pretty cold, but we went swimming anyway. Lots of fish, so if you're a fisher, you'd probably like it.

Maybe check out the upper kananaskis lake too. Go on google images.
