all the places near st.louis to camp?

b4ratt

Answer
There are almost too many to list both private campgrounds, state parks, federal parks etc. To the north you can go out highway 70 to Graham Cave State park or the private campgound KanDo at the same exit. Both of these are within a short driving distance of Herman so you can go wine tasting. Up highway 79 you are heading to Hanibal and they have a state park and private camping there too. Mark Twain Lake is also north and has camping areas. Heading south the closest is in St. Genevieve at Hahn State Park or you can head even further south to Trail of Tears Park closer to Cape Girdardeau. Going west there is a state park close to Sullivan and various camping places in Cuba, Bourbon and Steelville. Most of these feature floating. Some of the private places are Bass, Huzzah Valley and Garrisons. There is also Meremac Springs park which is federal and has a trout hatchery. There are lots of other places but not room to list everything here. To check out state parks go to http://www.mostateparks.com and for federal parks http://www.nps.gov. Other sources for private campgrounds is http://www.camping.about.com and http://www.camingwithascenicview.com

where is a really nice place to go camping near northeast ohio?

mrsdamico2

I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old

Answer
My favorite places to camp in northeast ohio would be the following:

Geneva State Park or Indian Creek Camping Resort in geneva.
I just think that Geneva is one wild and wacky summer town. Plenty of fun things to do with the kids.

Yogi Bears Jellystone Park in Aurora. Is a perfect place to camp with kids.

Mohican State Park in Loudenville is beautiful.

Punderson State Park also has a lot to offer, and great camping sites.

Lake Pymatuning has camping. And it is very unusual there because they are know for having "the ducks that walk on the fish" a very unusual site.

Also West Branch, Portage Lakes, Guilford Lake and Mosquito Lake, though they are not so good.

I think the best choices for the kids sake would be Indian Creek in Geneva or Jellystone in Aurora- just because of all the extras that are available to kids
here are their websites:

Have a fun and safe camping trip.
Take Care.

Good camping places in Swansea? 10 points if we camp there:)?

John

Were a group of 16 year olds going camping in swansea over one or two nights and I was jst wondering where I would be able camp, but i would like it to be within walking distance to the beach. Also somerwhere where the owners arent so fussed on late nighters.

Thanks

Answer
Pembrey country park.
I got back from there about 3wks ago.
During the day you can hire a bike and cycle around. You can watch car racing, go swimming. Go to the beach. Its £2 to get in for each person. You can choose were you wanna camp. Some places are quiet and other places are loud. Like we choosed to be in a place where we had these people playing music all through early hours in the morning. It was awesome.

Camping in the poconos?

Jem

Come on guys like i seirously need your help. Where can i camp in the poconos that doesnt require you to be 18 or older or like reserve it 10 days ahead of time. I really am looking for a laid back simple place ot just put up a tent. thats all.

Answer
If you are willing to fore go car-camping there are plenty of places. It does mean a walk-in, but in many cases not more than a tenth of a mile. Most of the Water Gap and River areas use the reservation system. However, all of the Delaware State Forest is open to primitive camping except in a few places close by the district forester. Same deal with the Lackawanna State Forest closer to Scranton and the western Poconos. All PA State Game Lands are closed to camping except the areas around the Appalachian Trail and a few other hiking trails.

If your style of camping involves drive-up spots, central restrooms/showers, coolers, and lawn chairs then I'm afraid that you will be limited to state parks and private campgrounds. Unless you so opt to find a quiet place on a remote section of PA Game Lands that is not prone to be patrolled by the local conservation officers.

Avoid the crowds, buy a backpack, no one will hassle you.

Where is a good place to go camping in Illinois/ Southern Wisconsin?

Intelley

I want to go camping in June. I live in Northern Illinois, and I just recently moved here, so I don't know the area. Whats a good camping place?

Answer
Look on the IL DNR website. I like Lake Le-Aqua-Na in Lena, and Rock Cut in Loves Park. If you go in Wisconsin, you have to pay extra at state parks, because you aren't a resident. I have heard Lake Shabbona is good, but haven't been there yet myself. I just went to Starved Rock last week, the sites are REALLY close together, and it fills up quick on the weekends. But the hiking there is awesome.
Lake Le-Aqua-Na, Rock Cut, and Shabbona also have swimming beaches, a plus for me when it's 90 degrees out!
Good luck finding a spot!
Feel free to email me, if you want to!

Where is the best place to camp in Wisconsin Dells?

Rachel B

I am taking my brother and one of his friends to wisconsin Dells in August and just incase if for some reason we aren't able to check into the hotel I need a plan B. (i like to be prepared for anything) We all thought it would be fun to go camping so I am trying to pick a good campground. I have KOA and Bonanza in mind already but is there a really good place we could go? We would be bringing a tent but if we have the money, a cabin would be nice too. So what would you recommend?

Answer
Sherwood Forest! I've been to almost all of them because each time I go to Wisconsin Dells we stay at a different campground, and Sherwood Forest is my favorite. Bonanza is good, and walking distance from the main strip, but you could spend a whole day just relaxing at Sherwood Forest. They have a nice sized pool, and a pretty awesome rec room. If you need some tips on places to go, Email me! My email is deshanejennifer@yahoo.com.

Best place for Camping and Hiking in Oklahoma?

Me and my friend are in college in Oklahoma City and looking for a close by place to Camp and Hike for a weekend trip. Within five hours away at the most, preferably a little closer. We would really like a place with some elevation change and more secluded than crowded.

Answer
http://beaversbendblog.blogspot.com/2009/06/map-and-trail-status-at-beavers-bend.html
I backpacked the Skyline Trail in Beavers Bend State Park in eastern Oklahoma near Broken Bow. And I camped at Bee Creek. I recommend this hike for seasoned hikers only.

The Charonâs Garden Wilderness Trail is located within the Wichita Mountain National Wildlife Refuge near Lawton. I especially enjoyed backpack camping there in late September when the elk are in rut. I had the privilage of listening to a bull elk bugle most of the night on my last camp.

family vacations....?

camilla;<3

this year me and my sister get to choose where to go.
i have no idea where to go though, so i was wondering what is a good place?
i am 15 and my sister is 16, so somewhere that it would be fun for teens.
please help! thank you.
im from illinois, i dont really have a budget and my parents.

Answer
Get out of the US! You already live there! Go somewhere exotic! Here are some options, just because you said you did not have a budget :p

South Africa-You guys could go on a Safari, incredible experience!
Japan
Malaysia
Thailand
Bali- Traveler is right, Bali is a fantastic place with so many sights to see, definitely a good choice!
Italy
Australia
New Zealand

Now here is an idea: You could travel down to London, take a look around and then sometime during your vacation, take the Euro Star train from London to Paris, it is about a two hour journey on the train.
So take advantage of this offer, and go somewhere that will make all your friends jealous c;
I have to say, of the choices above, Safari in South Africa is the best in my opinion. That sort of vacation is considered to be a really luxurious one, so do a little research and have a think about it! You may have this image of sleeping in cheap tents and lots of mosquitoes flying about, but it's not like that at all. This is one of the many luxurious reserves in South Africa, check it out! http://www.sabisabi.com/

Another note: I'm not trying to be rude, but do you really want to spend your holiday standing in lines for hours surrounded by noisy children and tourists eating ice cream? When you get back to school, what would sound more impressive? "I went to Disney World" or "I went to Bali/Africa/Malaysia/Australia/Paris"?

Why is Australia experiences flash floods?

Alannah

Answer
Flash floods occur when a lot of very heavy rain occurs over a short period. The water has to go somewhere. Most of the floods in Australia were not flash floods but river floods where more and more water runs into the rivers and the rivers rise, overflowing their banks. There is plenty of warning for river floods, next to no warning for flash floods.

"Australia didnt help Pakistan when it having flood, so allah now punishing Aussies"
The Australian Defence Forces made a number of trips to Pakistan taking in tents, tarpaulins, plastic sheeting and water purification equipment, generators, birthing kits and water containers to help more than 10,000 affected families. Australia gave more than $15million worth of aid. If allah doesn't like it, you know where he can go.

Where can i find a good place to camp in Tijuana b.c?

rosemary

Answer
Camping in Tijuana is like caming in Los Angeles.

If you want a nicer experience go further south.

People would have you believe that you will get killed just by stepping foot in Mexico.

The fact is that NO part of this world is safe. You can get killed by gang members or thugs in Los Angeles, Oklahoma, or Miami.

Have fun.

The way i see it, getting robbed or killed in Mexico is no worse than getting robbed or killed in the USA.

What would the best place in Canada be for someone to go primitive camping?

FISHER

I'm wondering where in Canada would be suitable for primitive campers who want to rough it and get miles and miles and MILES away from civilization? To the point where the woods that fill the uninterrupted gaps between towns are immense? Would someone need a permit to do so?

Answer
Most wilderness areas in northern Canada are on Crown land. This means you can access these areas because they are public lands. We have thousands of square miles of wilderness terrain. However, you really need to do your homework. Each year we lose many tourists who are attempting to do what you are requesting because they were ill prepared.
Your best plan is to select an appropriate area, then concentrate on that area with respect to point of entry, terrain, route travelled, supplies and equipment needed, length of time away, emergency procedures, point of arrival, contact people, etc. It is also recommended you bone up on GPS, have good maps & compasses and bush skills.
Once you select an area, contacting local people is a must, because they will know the area better than you. There are probably two ways to undertake your journey once you reach your take off point:

1. By float plane to a preselected lake that you would use as your on-the-ground starting point. From that point you would either hike in or canoe in on a preselected route to get picked up at the end of your journey by float plane on a different preselected lake at a prearranged date.

2. Or start your journey from where you have parked your vehicle, got off the bus, whatever. This journey would be by boat or on foot. Once started you would follow the same procedures as in Item 1.

With respect to region:

1. Lots of places in the Yukon.
2. In the NWT I recommend anywhere on the Mackenzie River or the Theolon River Valley in the
Barrenlands.
3. Lots of areas in northern BC.
4. Good terrain on the Precambrian Shield in northern Saskatchewan or Manitoba. The Churchill River starting at Cumberland House, Saskatchewan downstream to empty into Hudson Bay is quite wild.
5. Northern Alberta and Ontario have too much muskeg and scrubby bush. I wouldn't recommend the Maritimes either. That's simply my opinion, BTW.
Anyway, get good maps and do your homework.
