My friends and I need to find a good place to camp in tents this next weekend. We go to Texas Tech and would like to stay in Texas. We don't mind traveling but we need a cheap place that is preferably warmer and a place were we can drink. Any good suggestions?

I live in DC and I have friends in ny. We are looking for a good place in between (2-3 hour drive) our two cities to meet and do a day hike on the Appalachian. I know this will put us in Pennsylvania somewhere - what are some good spots to meet? Thanks.

Answer
Your goal is not realistic. The Mountains in Maryland that include the presidential retreat Camp David have the Appalachian Trail. It would take you 1 hour 15 min. to 1 hour 45 minutes to get there.

In Pennsylvania the A. T. run in a north easterly direction from out beyond Harrisburg by over an hour that would mean your friends traveling from ny would need to travel 2 hours 15 minutes down I -95 to philadelphia take the Blue route to the Pennsylvania Turnpike ( Another 20 minutes) take the turnpike to Harrisburg West exit nearly dead on 1 and a half hours. Then they would have to drive over an hour to get to trail :over 5 hours of driving total.

Say you meet near ny, it would take 2 hours 45 min. to 3 hours 15 minutes north on I-95 just to make Philadelphia then you would have to drive 2 to 2 and a half hours to meet your friends.

sorry it just won't work.

Where is a good spot to go crabbing in Maryland?

joe120t

Does anyone know where a good spot is to go crabbing in Maryland. I lust moved to Silver Spring so as close as possible is prefered. I am also wondering where I can buy crab traps and crabbing supplies. Thanks!

Answer
Since you live close to Annapolis on the western Maryland shore.I would go that way if I were you. There are a bunch of public piers that you have access to if you don't have a boat or a friend that has one. You can use crab traps, trout lines with multiple baits or a single chicken neck on a string the old fashioned way. If you go online there are multiple websites for Maryland showing you the exact locations near you. The Maryland State Tourist board is one of the biggest that shows vacation spots, fishing, crabbing and camping locations for your area and the entire state.....You might want to do an online search on the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (Headquartered in Annapolis,MD) to get up to date info on regulations for crabbing, size, limit etc. Anne Arundel County has plenty of places to buy what you need.Check out the yellow pages for your area.Good Luck!

15 people, 1 car, camping, lake. How? Foods, car activities, anything?

Answer
15 people + 1 car = impossible. How are you going to fit everyone's gear in, let alone 15 people? First of all, I suggest you rent a couple of vans for the occasion. There is no way you will be able to fit everything in one. And you wouldn't want to skimp on gear would you?

As far as activities in the car go, you can play some games, including:

- The Packing Game: as a group, you decide on a location. Then everyone goes around and says something they are going to bring. The first person starts with the letter A, next person with the letter B, and so on. The catch is, you have to remember what everyone else said in order after you said what you will bring.
- Twenty Questions (Animal, Vegetable, Mineral)
- The ABC Game: have to look for all the letters of the alphabet in order, can use license plates, billboards, etc.
- The Animal Game: you go around and say the name of an animal, and the next person has to say an animal that starts with the last letter of the animal the last person named. You can switch it up too, do geographical locations or cities.

Also, nothing is better for road tripping than singing really loud and annoying songs. That's usually how our road trips go anyways.

As far as food goes, you can really do anything. Some of our favorites are:

Pie Iron Pizzas:
Loaf of bread
1 jar pizza sauce
1 4-cup bag shredded mozzarella cheese
1 bag pepperoni
Other toppings as needed (mushrooms, peppers, etc.)
Garlic powder
Cooking spray
Pie irons
Spray the inside of your pie iron with cooking spray. Take two slices of bread, and spray one side of each with a bit more cooking spray. Sprinkle with garlic powder. To the other side of one slice, add pizza sauce, cheese and pepperoni. Put other slice on top. Close pie iron. Place over hot coals on the fire until cheese is melted and sauce is hot. Serves 10+

Hamburger Dinner:
2 lb ground beef
8 potatoes
8 carrots
1 onion
salt & pepper to taste
aluminum foil
Divide meat into 8 portions. Shape each portion into a patty and place on a sheet of aluminum foil. Wash potatoes and carrots well. Cut into thin slices, divide into 8 portions, and place on top of hamburger patties. Add sliced onion and salt/pepper if desired. Wrap with foil using heavy duty foil. Cook on rack about 1 inch over coals for 15 minutes on one side and 5 minutes on the other. Serves 8.

Sunshine Enchiladas:
2 lbs ground beef
1 onion, chopped
32 oz chili beans
1 c ketchup
8 oz tomato juice
2 c shredded cheddar cheese
1 bag corn chips (we prefer Fritos)
salt & pepper
chili seasoning
Brown meat and onion together in kettle. Add chili beans, seasonings, ketchup, and tomato juice. Cook, stirring frequently for 30 minutes. Remove from heat. Add cheese and stir. Serve over corn chips. Serves 10. Great for a portable meal as well, if you get individual bags of Fritos you can pull all the fixins in there, grab a fork and take it anywhere! Serves 10.

Chicken and Rice:
2 c cooked, boned chicken (we bring a few cans of chicken - super easy and portable)
10 oz cream of mushroom soup
10 oz cream of chicken soup
1 c milk
2 c minute rice
water
Drain broth from chicken and add water to the broth to make 2 cups. Combine chicken broth, milk, and soups in a kettle. Stir well and bring to a boil. Dice chicken into bite-sized pieces and add to boiling mixture. Bring to a boil again and add rice and stir. Remove from heat, cover, let stand until rice is tender. Serves 4-6. This one is super easy because you can make it in one pot!

Good luck!

How much does it cost to travel across America for 4-8 weeks?

Matt Hawki

I'm British and a few friends and I want to travel across America for 4-8 weeks to take in as much as possible. Were thinking of flying to the west coast and traveling across to New York to return home. Will probably drive a car and sleep in car/camp and maybe use motels/hotels every few days.

thanks.

Answer
Depending on the MPG the car will get will depend on the cost of gas. From San Francisco to New York is 2909 miles and if your car get 25 mpg you will be looking at a gas cost of $380 approx. (from Mapquest.com)
The mileage from Los Angeles to New York is 2786 and In my opinion would be a better route because you could see the Grand Canyon (a few miles out of route) and gas prices are a bit cheaper in Oklahoma and Missouri saving some money.
Motel rooms will cost anywhere from 50 to 150 depending on where you want to stay. If it was me I would plan on driving 500 to 700 miles a day and then plan my stops out and go to Expedia.com, Priceline.com, or cheaphotels.com and get great prices on rooms. The more you plan out the more you can save. Also if u will be camping look at KOA.com (Kampgrounds of America) to see locations and get deals.
Please don't camp at rest areas along the route, in some states it is illegal and in some places you will be robbed.

Where do I go to look up historical information about Arizona ghost towns?

Carlito

Specifics: Looking for info on Bond Canyon, history of Alto Camp, folks who lived in the area, schools, Alto Cemetery, and Josiah and Minnie Bond. Minnie was killed by lightning on 9/1/22. Her husband, Josiah was a mine egineer. Also looking for info on the Alto Camp Post Office and General Store that was supposedly owned by Josiah and Minnie. Any offspring of them would be nice to find.

Answer
I have done some historical research on other mining activities in that area and can give you a few places to look for more details:

The mining camp of Alto was located in Santa Cruz county on the southwest slope of the Santa Rita Mountains south of Tucson. Just to the south was the larger and better known mining camp of Salero, so you may want to look for info on Salero as well. The entire area was considered part of the Tyndall Mining District. The district was worked back in the Spanish period (1700s) and was a small producer of lead, gold, and silver until the 1960s.

There are several good books on Arizona ghost towns including Phil Varney's "Arizona Ghost Towns and Mining Camps" and James Sherman's "Ghost Towns of Arizona". The entry for Alto on the website that another poster lists above is pretty much copied exactly from Varney's book (with out giving credit, I might add). As you can read, it only gives a brief background on the camp.

The most detailed account of the mining activities in that area is in the book "History of Mining in Arizona, Vol 3" (various authors). In Chapter 3, "The Patagonia Area Mining Districts, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, 1536-1930", Robert Lenon gives a detailed description of the various mining companies and owners. He specifically mentions Josiah Bond as well as George Clark, Jens Peterson, Albert Steinfeld, Mark Lulley, Mike Hogan and Herb McCutchin as operating mines in the area after 1911. It refers to an 'Alto Mines Co.' that combined the 'Alto' and 'Wandering Jew' mine claims (Lulley referred to himself as the 'wandering jew').

Another good resource is the booklet, "Index of Mining Properties in Santa Cruz County, Arizona" by the Arizona Bureau of Mines. For the Alto Mine Group, it also lists Bond as an owner and notes that the mine produced 3,500 tons of ore averaging 12% lead, 14oz silver per ton and 3% copper in an ore body of quartz-barite fissure veins running through Creataceous rhyodacite and Jurassic granite. Despite its long life-span, the mine was a usually a comparative small-time operation.

The book "Arizona Post Offices" by Patera and Gallagher notes that the Alto post office was established on June 6, 1912 and discontinued on Dec 30, 1933.

Depending on how much detail you want, here are some other sources of info you should check:

Arizona Historical Society Archives (Tucson, near UofA) - Many people and companies donated their papers and records there.

University of Arizona Library, Special Collections - Also a good source of documents and records. I seem to recall at least one collect there that had a lot of info on the nearby Aztec mines group.

United States Census - If they lived there at a decade mark (1910, 1920) than you should be able to find them listed in the census. This would give their age, income, occupation and other useful information. These can usually be found on microfiche at major libraries.

Local Newspapers - The Arizona Historical Society has archives of many old AZ papers. The Tucson papers (Citizen and Star) often carried mining news and probably would have noted somebody being killed by lightening.

Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources (Phoenix) - They usually keep a folder with a lot of good ownership and operations information on each major mining claim in AZ.

Arizona Corporation Commission (Phoenix) - If they incorporated a company in Arizona (especially after statehood in 1912) than there is a good chance that the company papers would still be on file (including owners and funding).

The people at the Arizona Historical Society or Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources could probably give you other leads.

What are fun things to do with Chinese exchange students?

family tent camping list image

hallie

My family is hosting two chinese students this summer. My teacher (who is running the program) has asked me to think of some fun things to do with all the students and some field trips to go on and i'm stuck on what to do! Any Ideas?

Answer
Neat.

* Family get together (when's the next time Grandma going to get a chance to meet real Chinese people, as opposed to just hearing about them on TV?)
* Local sporting event (baseball, basketball, hockey...)
* Local carnivals or festivals
* Local landmarks / sightseeing
* State fair
* Farmer's market
* Local history/cultural museums
* Zoo / Aquarium
* Amusement park
* 4th of July celebration w/fireworks
* Outdoor picnic / BBQ
* Outlet mall
* Go to a "Chinese" restaurant
* Go to an authentic Chinese restaurant
* Go to a local famous restaurant - anything that isn't in China
* If they wish to show you how to cook a Chinese dish, try going to a Chinese grocery store
* Political rally for Obama or Romney or other local politician

In general, anything that is unique to America, or even better, to your city or area. If they're from a big city, take them into the wilderness or to a farm. If they like the outdoors, go on an overnight camping trip somewhere - even if it's just setting up the tent in your backyard.

Having them meet as many different people as possible is also a good idea. That's why I listed Family Get Together. Could be something informal, or a reunion, or even your 3rd cousin's wedding. The idea is to show them what real life Americans are like - not the ones they only see on TV or in movies.

Anything that is important to you is a good idea. If your family goes to church on Sunday - they're going. You or sibling is on the little league team? They're going to a game. Sunday dinner with Grandma? Yeah they're going.

At the same time, give them a chance to share their culture with you as well. If you have a Chinese restaurant that serves authentic Chinese food and not just stuff like General Tso's Chicken (which I guarantee they've never had before) going there will not only give them a comforting taste of home but also show you what their life in China is like.

Where is a good remote place to go camping in northern New Jersey?

Confused F

I would like to just pop a tent, make a fire and cook some food, and go fishing and relax for a weekend.. any ideas around northern NJ/eastern PA? Thanks!

Answer
The following page on the NJ DEP website lists all the state parks and forests with camping. Primitive camping (e.g., without established site boundaries and masses of other people) is only available at Wharton State Forest in the Pine Barrens. There are plenty of rivers, creeks, ponds and lakes in the Pine Barrens, but fishing is a challenge because of the dark tea-colored waters (a result of the high iron content in the soil -- the Pine Barrens was a major producer of iron in the early 1800's.

Other state parks and forests are also very nice. If you're limited to Northern NJ, Stokes is another favorite camping location, but they lack the seclusion available out in the primitive sites at Wharton.

There are over 100 privately-owned commercial campgrounds in NJ, but they have little extra to offer in terms of camping basics, unless you want electric, water and sewer hook-ups, a swimming pool, game room, real bathrooms with hot water and laundry facilities, oh, and don't forget the accompanying crowds, blaring musing, screaming kids, racing golf carts and drunken arguments.

There is no legal dispersed camping in NJ except for along the Appalachian Trail, and even here camping is strictly regulated.

Ironically, though I've done lots of camping in PA and NY it was all on private land (with permission, of course), or at one of the traditional family camping areas.

what are some good campgrounds to get really drunk at in Canada?

Bre

a bunch of ppl are turning 18 next summer, and are planning a camping trip to Canada, where they can get really drunk and live life. Obviously, they don't want to be in some family-oriented camp ground, so if anyone has partaken in such youthful craziness, and know of a decent place where they won't get kicked out or arrested for being loud and drunk, please let me know!

Answer
Come to alberta. Can drink at 18 here. Go to pretty much any lake/campsite. Other provinces you can drink at 18 are Manitoba but people only leave there, no one smart would go there to camp. Or Quebec, but that place is full of arrogant french wannabes.

Need recommendation for a hotel near Yosemite National Park?

We are going to visit Yosemite for a day in September. Is there a nice place at around the park to stay or do you have to stay in a nearby town?

Answer
Hey there! September is a really good time to visit, once some of the summer-vacation crowds have left. I used to live and work in the Yosemite area, and have tried many of the places to stay both in and around the park. Here are some recommendations.

*INSIDE YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK*

In Yosemite Valley, the heart of the park, the cabins at Curry Village are fun, though the safari-style tents may be too rustic if you're not into camping. The Lodge at Yosemite Falls has typical cookie-cutter motel rooms -- not worth the price. If money is no object, the Ahwahnee hotel is luxurious.

In the southern part of the park, near the biggest redwood tree grove, the Wawona Hotel is an old-fashioned place. If you'd rather stay up in the high country of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park has tent cabin lodging near Tuolumne Meadows that's fun for families, though a bit rustic.

You can find out more info about all of these in-park accommodations here:

http://www.yosemitepark.com/

*OUTSIDE YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK*

Most of the towns near the park entrances offer basic motel and hotel lodgings, mostly chains, at inflated prices. I've found the fairest deals in Oakhurst, just south of the park. You can peruse recent traveler reviews here:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g32809-Oakhurst_California-Hotels.html

Otherwise, Groveland (northwest of the park) has some good options, too, in many price ranges. Our all-time favorite place to stay near Yosemite is the Evergreen Lodge:

http://www.evergreenlodge.com/

Just outside the park's west entrance, the hostel-like Yosemite Bug has cozy cabins, tents and dorms for budget travelers, family-style:

Any other questions, just ask! Happy to share what I know about Yosemite. You can click on my profile to email me, too, if you prefer.

Saratoga race course-- what kind of of amenities does the clubhouse have over grandstand seating?

Mark R

Besides a better view what does the clubhouse have over grandstand seating?
Thank you all for your responses.
I don't think our clubhouse tickets require sport coats from my intrepretation online

So basically the major difference is better view (obviously) and concessions? We have been once and sat in the grandstands, how are the food choices/seating etc different in the clubhouse?

Also, does anyone know how many seats each row has? The one day I think we are in seats 15,16... wondering if that is smack dab in the middle or near an aisle.
Sandra- we are staying in Lake George. Any advice for eating places or attractions not to miss?

Answer
Not sure what track, answerer (Will I)is talking about, but it sure isn't Saratoga Race Course.

**********As stated food, appetizers, salads and sandwiches, it's on the 2nd floor of the Clubhouse behind box seats.

Depending on ones your personal preferences. Both Clubhouse and grandstand seating is covered but in open air with an awesome view. Clubhouse view is closer to Finish Line, and Grandstand seating is to the left of that. You can see chart in link- http://www.teamonetickets.com/seating-chart/saratoga-race-course-map.html.

Also if interested, two locations are climate controlled:
â¢The At-the-Rail Pavilion
⢠The luxury suites. The luxury suites offer the ultimate level of comfort and privacy in Saratoga Race Course. These climate-controlled units offer intimate views of the racing action and are ideal for corporate or social entertaining. They're positioned at the Clubhouse turn, and-being glass-enclosed-it feels like the horses are running so close that you can touch them. Luxury suites feature private betting windows, monitors, restrooms, theater style seating, dining/bar options and a rooftop observation deck. NYRA's Group Sales team has created wonderful menu options for you and your colleagues, family or friends. These suites are available for groups of 62 maximum, but some individual seats may be available, depending on the day. Individual seats cost between $50 and $350. Day and week of event determines cost of individual seats. For more information before July 19, 2013, contact Group Sales at (888) 285-5961 or FAX (718) 659-3541. ('site: www.nyragroupsales.com) After July 20, call (518) 584-6200 and ask for Group Sales. Prices and availability may vary.

For more you can refer to site link below.

Have Fun :)

****EDIT UPDATE***

As far as food, they offers a variety of dining experiences from casual to elegant. The multi-tiered Turf Terrace offers a formal setting with a spectacular view of the racing action while the At The Rail Pavilion is an upscale dining tent located trackside on the Clubhouse turn. After many years of going, I experienced many things, however, I'm not the type to get seats and sit, I like to mingle, get close to the horses(paddock) and close to the track/the trackside apron, and the Top of the Stretch . We take our coolers there as well as picnic food to the backyard picnic area. If you check the seating chart in link under S looking for Saratoga Race Course or call they will know more of sections, rows and seating numbers and locations. They are very nice so feel free to call anytime. Click on some of the links I provided to learn more.

Also, I don't know where you live, but no mater, it's necessary to plan way in advance, since this is a HOT SPOT this time of the year. It's really difficult to find anything close or inexpensive in Saratoga Springs during the racing meet... unless you book way in advance almost everywhere is booked many months even years in advance.. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Flights-g4856⦠is a good site to plan for a weekend in late July through early Sept. for flights and most of the hotels. Don't be surprise though Saratoga Springs is tough and most places are completely booked at anything less than $350 or more a night. Here's some reviews that are helpful too http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserRevie⦠- I can give advice on places and such, but it's hard for me to give advice about a trip because my family has an Estate on Lake George about 45 minutes away from Saratoga Race Course so we drive or catch a shuttle, which there are plenty of hotels that offer shuttles. Hope this helps answer your back up questions.. :)

@ Mark-There's so much to do and up there I wouldn't know where to begin. Here's a link to seek out your own personal interest(s). http://www.lakegeorge.com/ My main interest obviously is the meet / Horse Racing, however, I do enjoy boating, going out to dinner... the Lake is beautiful. There's so many attractions so take your pick.. again see link. :)

What are good non-expensive tent camping places in Northern California?

good camping place in california image

LisaLu

My husband and I love to camp, but we are new to the northern California area, and don't know any good places around the Sacramento/Grass Valley area. We are looking for something under $10 a night. We don't mind roughing it, so even if its out in the middle of nowhere, but its a good place to camp near a lake or stream it would be awesome to know of. Thanks!

Answer
Welcome to Kalifornistan! It's a land of many wonders and blunders. the first being that campground fee's have doubled in the last few years mainly at state parks and national parks. There are still a few $10 and less spots and even fewer free ones. Weekends around your area the most popular sites get reserved 6 months in advance. Now don't lose hope of finding a site there are just as many non reservable sites too you just have to be the early bird to catch the site, by early I mean a couple of days early by thursday no later if you want to stay through the Weekend. Popular spots are the lakes and rivers that are around you and tops is Folsom lake and the rivers above and below that. The National forests around you are also great destinations and that's where you will find the most luck of getting a spot for the weekend. They also have what is called dispersed camping where you head out a forest road and find your own spot or what is called a yellow post site. These are free with the cost of an adventure pass $5 a day $30 for the year.

Google map to see what state parks and forests are closest to you and then look up their web page, check for campground listings and you will find which ones are reservable and which are first come. Here is a link to help you find public and private campgrounds in your area,

Places in Florida that offer group camping for 10-15 adults?

The best Pontins is Blackpool. Its a great place. The food is buffet service so you can get as many helpings as you like. There are 3 entertainment places plus a pub, The ballroom, disco and princess theatre.
Its a great place for the kids. Outside is a regular tram service into Blackpool but the pleasure beach is 20 mins walk if you prefer to walk. Also an bus takes you to the town too.

The famous tower can be seen from most parts of the camp.

Yes this is my favorite Pontins :))

who has the best jokes in the world!!!?

Joker P

FYI: best jokes=long, funny, intresting, and just not some crap that comedians use during these strip clubs at midnight who talk all these fv<k. No i do not care why there are so many starbucks or Mc donalds and please dont repeat jokes.

Answer
The world's funniest joke is a term used by Richard Wiseman to summarize one of the results of his research. For his experiment, named LaughLab, he created a website where people could submit and rate over 10,000 jokes.

The winning joke was submitted by Gurpal Gosall of Manchester:

â Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?". The operator says "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence, then a shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says "OK, now what?" â

The second place finisher and early leader was this joke, submitted by Geoff Anandappa of Blackpool:

â Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson were going camping. They pitched their tent under the stars and went to sleep. Sometime in the middle of the night Holmes woke Watson up and said: "Watson, look up at the stars and tell me, what do you see?"
Watson replied: "I see millions and millions of stars."
Holmes said: "And what do you deduce from that?"
Watson replied: "Well, if there are millions of stars, and if even a few of those have planets, it's quite likely there are some planets like earth out there. And if there are a few planets like earth out there, there might also be life."
And Holmes said: "Watson, you idiot, it means that somebody stole our tent."
â

While this was the top joke in the UK:

â A woman gets on a bus with her baby. The bus driver says: "That's the ugliest baby that I've ever seen. Ugh!" The woman goes to the rear of the bus and sits down, fuming. She says to a man next to her: "The driver just insulted me!" The man says: "You go right up there and tell him off â go ahead, I'll hold your monkey for you." â

In Australia the top joke was as follows:

â A woman rushed to see her doctor, looking very much worried and all strung out. She rattles off: "Doctor, take a look at me. When I woke up this morning, I looked at myself in the mirror and saw my hair all wiry and frazzled up, my skin was all wrinkled and pasty, my eyes were bloodshot and bugging out, and I had this corpse-like look on my face! What's WRONG with me, Doctor!?"
The doctor looks her over for a couple of minutes, then calmly says: "Well, I can tell you that there ain't nothing wrong with your eyesight."

How big is a standard tent pad area at a campsite?

big family camping tents on Home BIG Family Tents Sarengo 10 person family camping tunnel tent
big family camping tents image

movielover

Looking to buy a big family tent to use in Colorado. I want a big one, but not bigger than the standard tent pads. They are usually a square level gravel pad with a wooden border. I'm thinking about 12' x 12'. Do you know?

Answer
Most US forest service and state park campgrounds have an area big enough and flat enough to handle any size family tent, I would not worry about that at all. RV parks on the other hand like to squeeze as many folks as possible in their campgrounds and a 12x12 is pushing it. Some campground reservation services will list the recommended tent size for the camp site. Call a few your going to and ask.

How can i go camping with my family?

Casey Dami

I wanna go camping with my family. Like a real camp, with tents, marshmellows the whole lot! But i live in UAE and i dnt knw anywhere here thats good for that. Its all dessert and stuff u knw. I want greenery. Help anyone?

Answer
You need to green a room. There are wallpapers that look like forest and jungle. I've seen clever people do amazing things with construction paper design. Real plants can give room the scent of greenery. Don't forget to color yourself green. Add some big mirrors, grill broil marshmallows, and enjoy fruit drinks. I once had to make do with just army green
parachute as my ceiling and walls; sunshine passing it
seemed to turn everything within the color of new grass.

2. to go to kobe bryants summer basketball camp and meet him!!!!!!

What are some areas of / things in the United States everyone should see in their lifetime?

laicisms

Please help me make a list of these places, including those that are lesser known. I'll start the list:

* Grand Canyon

* Mt. Rushmore

What else?

Answer
- Badlands (South Dakota)
- Black Hills (bunch of stuff in there, including Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, pinnacles drive, etc.)
- Devils Tower (the "mountain" in Close Encounters of the Third Kind)
- Yellowstone (stay in one of the old rooms at the lodge at Old Faithful; go in summer to see the geysers at their best; go in winter to see the wildlife)
- Tetons National Park
- Bryce National Park
- Zion National Park
- Monument Valley
- Grand Canyon (as you said)
- Vegas - optional :-)
- Death Valley
- LA - optional :-)
- Drive up Highway 1 (take a couple of days and stop of at Hearst Castle, Carmel, etc. I wish I could remember the name of the restaurant (well up some hillside) we stopped at and had lunch overlooking the Pacific - beautiful).
- San Francisco
- Wine Country
- Yosemite

I'm not going to add any widgets because there would be way too many of them :-)

Most of that I saw on one unforgettable 3 week trip with my wife. We were moving from Columbus, OH, to San Jose, CA. The moving company packed up everything in their truck, we packed the camping gear, hiking boots and some clothes in the car and took 3 weeks winding our way across the US, stopping off and going on hikes. Spectacular! We didnât hit everything I listed on that trip but we did most of it. Just listing it out makes me want to jump in the car and do it again.

Can someone give me some info on backpacking through Yellowstone, or Southern Alaska?

I want to spend 2 or 3 weeks hiking through one of these places, and sleeping under the stars, after I get back from this deployment. Does anyone have any good info on this? Cost, feasibility, anything I need to know about it.

Answer
In Yellowstone, you will be on designated trails and camping in designated areas, even in the back-country. You will leave 99 percent of the crowd behind, simply by leaving the paved road, but depending on the time of year you may be a long ways from isolation.

The good news is that as a solo hiker with flexibility, you may be able to simply arrive, ask the back-country rangers where the fewest people are and make your plans on-the-spot with truly expert advise.

Want my Advise? Right between Yellowstone and Glacier (Just south of Glacier, literally across the highway) is the Bob Marshal Wilderness. You have a real chance of passing through this area without seeing another person. Take a fish pole and you should be able carry and catch enough food for at least 10 days. Know Bear-safe camping, there are both Black and Brown (Grizzly).

Alaska, especially the inland passage and South, is made for boat travel. Consider taking or renting a canoe or kayak. With either, it is possible to carry everything you need for several weeks. It is not an environ to be taken lightly. There are animals there that put you in the middle of the food chain! Experience in wet conditions and dealing with bugs would be advised. The area not part of Denali National Park is largely National Forest. Pick an area and call the nearest USFS office for trail and camping updates.

Again with the advise:
Go to Telegraph Creek, British Columbia. Canoe or Kayak the Stickeen River 90 miles to Wrangell Alaska. Late June or early July is optimum for reasonable river flow, and weather. There are numerous opportunities to pull ashore and spend a day or two hiking. Glaciers and Hot-Springs. Pre arrange your air, ground or water shuttle.

I am going to Yellowstone for 4 days for the Labor Day weekend. What kind of clothing should I pack?

ocjeehae

I won't be camping there, I will be staying at a hotel but will be sightseeing during the day.

Answer
Be prepared for summer and fall. Throw in a jacket. Layering is my best advice for Yellowstone. At lower elevations, you may be able to get away with shorts and a T-shirt during the day, but in the evenings you might need jeans and a sweatshirt or jacket. Or, you might need jeans and a jacket every day your are there. The weather is unpredictable there. It can go from sunny and warm to snow in a matter of an hour, especially as you drive or hike to higher elevations. Be sure to bring good hiking/walking shoes. Water proof boots and jacket are a plus too. Bring them along and hope you don't have to use them.

I have been doing research on line for my upcoming trip to Yellowstone in Oct. Many of the different websites post the daily/current temperatures in and around the park. I've been on websites for white water rafting, sight seeing tour companies and some of the hotel websites for Jackson and West Yellowstone. Many will report the temps somewhere on their sites. Temps have been in the upper 70s-mid 80s the last couple of days.

Yellowstone is truly an amazing place. Be ready to take lots of pictures. Enjoy your trip, you won't be disappointed.

To what extent was sufficient information available in the early 1940s to enable people generally to recognize the evacuation and internment of Japanese-Americans was an unjust consequence of racial prejudice, war hysteria, and failure of political leadership? Essay question for ap US history. All help is appreciated.

Answer
During the first couple years of war in Southeast Asia, the Japanese made heavy use of local Japanese in the lands being attacked. These local Japanese made maps for the army, provided local guide services, showed their armies all the little backways troops could move. They prepared the occasional rough-and-ready airfield and guided Japanese troop landing efforts. They even provided sabatoge services for the Japanese armies.

After the attack at Pearl Harbor, America expected an attack to take Hawaii, then invade the west coast of America. We were NOT in any way unaware of what local Japanese had done in other lands and we were NOT in any way unaware how poorly we had behaved toward our Japanese citizens, how little they were welcome, and how any normal one of them might very well have a pile of resentment sufficient to provide many of the same services their corresponding emigrants were RIGHT THEN actively providing in lands like the Phillipines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Now, if we then acted out of war hysteria we would have had riots killing Japs (that's what the rioters would have called them when not calling them the slightly nicer Nips (because they themselves would have preferred that)) by the ten thousand. War hysteria playing upon prejudice, and paired with any amount of failure of political leadership, would have blamed the Pearl Harbor attack on them and rioters would have killed them for that alone, not just because they might help the Imperial Army invade, or, well, just because.

In fact, very little of that kind of rioting or activity took place. The internees were put in camps that, while hardly the lap of luxury, were not pits of hell either.

Finally, though this might seriously hardly be the way to provide protection to a large group of people, but I might also point out that this group of people might have begun to be the target of more and more violence as the war went on and people had sons and fathers die vs. Japan. As individuals spread over the west coast they would have been easy targets for angry people. In internment camps, none of that was possible, nor could it start as an isolate thing and grow because it could never start.

The invasion never came so it never mattered who might've helped the Imperial Army. No one died after interment so that ball of wax never began or got rolling.

I might also point out how quickly and smoothly, from a government aspect, the whole program was conceived, begun, and completed. That is hardly the hallmark of "failure of political leadership."

Now, I suppose you'll just delete the question since there is no way to remove individual answers. This one, given the claptrap you wrote into the question as God-given facts, can hardly satisfy you, nor is it likely you'll wish others to read your question and then this answer. Good luck on your next try.

Erm... I would like to hear opinion from malaysians who went through this program. How is it like? Is it really that hard and is it really like erm.... I don't know, some of my friends say it's certainly not a heaven. How would they know? They haven't even been there before. I'm confused.

Answer
It is a preliminary battlefield between Malay participants and Chinese participants, (happen in the male camp only, don't worry, relax). Both hot young blood of different ethnics throw chairs to each other and have gang fight until the trainers come to intervene.
If you don't trust what I am saying, you can ask other seniors. The universities suffered a lot of loss when they lent their campuses as the place for the program,as their furnitures became the weapon of the students.

It is also the place to rear tapeworms and other parasites inside your intestine.( according to my zoology and microbiology knowledges when I saw the meal they provided, macam ini, halal tak?)

It is the place you are naked for everybody's eyes.Luckily,my 'grand canon' is big enough to show of,although I am a relatively short guy.I feel proud of it,and I earned praises from other ethnics too.

It is the place you learn to be a real Man if you are male.

Congratulations to all trainees who can withstand the environment, Lee Lam Thye;Najis and fellow contractors who earn a lot of profit from this program.Sorrow to those who perished during this program due to reckless managements from the authorities.

Jack Melto

Im trying to find a place in Northern Virginia where me and a few friends can pitch a tent, start a fire, fish, and hike for about 3 or 4 days. preferably some where that we can "rough it".

Answer
Prince William Forest Park....The entrance is of Joplin Rd. They have a camp ground in the back that is more rustic. I like going there, it's probably as good as it gets considering the area. You'll wanna use the camping lots in the very back, there the best ones.
