To what extent was sufficient information available in the early 1940s to enable people generally to recognize the evacuation and internment of Japanese-Americans was an unjust consequence of racial prejudice, war hysteria, and failure of political leadership? Essay question for ap US history. All help is appreciated.

Answer
During the first couple years of war in Southeast Asia, the Japanese made heavy use of local Japanese in the lands being attacked. These local Japanese made maps for the army, provided local guide services, showed their armies all the little backways troops could move. They prepared the occasional rough-and-ready airfield and guided Japanese troop landing efforts. They even provided sabatoge services for the Japanese armies.

After the attack at Pearl Harbor, America expected an attack to take Hawaii, then invade the west coast of America. We were NOT in any way unaware of what local Japanese had done in other lands and we were NOT in any way unaware how poorly we had behaved toward our Japanese citizens, how little they were welcome, and how any normal one of them might very well have a pile of resentment sufficient to provide many of the same services their corresponding emigrants were RIGHT THEN actively providing in lands like the Phillipines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Now, if we then acted out of war hysteria we would have had riots killing Japs (that's what the rioters would have called them when not calling them the slightly nicer Nips (because they themselves would have preferred that)) by the ten thousand. War hysteria playing upon prejudice, and paired with any amount of failure of political leadership, would have blamed the Pearl Harbor attack on them and rioters would have killed them for that alone, not just because they might help the Imperial Army invade, or, well, just because.

In fact, very little of that kind of rioting or activity took place. The internees were put in camps that, while hardly the lap of luxury, were not pits of hell either.

Finally, though this might seriously hardly be the way to provide protection to a large group of people, but I might also point out that this group of people might have begun to be the target of more and more violence as the war went on and people had sons and fathers die vs. Japan. As individuals spread over the west coast they would have been easy targets for angry people. In internment camps, none of that was possible, nor could it start as an isolate thing and grow because it could never start.

The invasion never came so it never mattered who might've helped the Imperial Army. No one died after interment so that ball of wax never began or got rolling.

I might also point out how quickly and smoothly, from a government aspect, the whole program was conceived, begun, and completed. That is hardly the hallmark of "failure of political leadership."

Now, I suppose you'll just delete the question since there is no way to remove individual answers. This one, given the claptrap you wrote into the question as God-given facts, can hardly satisfy you, nor is it likely you'll wish others to read your question and then this answer. Good luck on your next try.

Erm... I would like to hear opinion from malaysians who went through this program. How is it like? Is it really that hard and is it really like erm.... I don't know, some of my friends say it's certainly not a heaven. How would they know? They haven't even been there before. I'm confused.

Answer
It is a preliminary battlefield between Malay participants and Chinese participants, (happen in the male camp only, don't worry, relax). Both hot young blood of different ethnics throw chairs to each other and have gang fight until the trainers come to intervene.
If you don't trust what I am saying, you can ask other seniors. The universities suffered a lot of loss when they lent their campuses as the place for the program,as their furnitures became the weapon of the students.

It is also the place to rear tapeworms and other parasites inside your intestine.( according to my zoology and microbiology knowledges when I saw the meal they provided, macam ini, halal tak?)

It is the place you are naked for everybody's eyes.Luckily,my 'grand canon' is big enough to show of,although I am a relatively short guy.I feel proud of it,and I earned praises from other ethnics too.

It is the place you learn to be a real Man if you are male.

Congratulations to all trainees who can withstand the environment, Lee Lam Thye;Najis and fellow contractors who earn a lot of profit from this program.Sorrow to those who perished during this program due to reckless managements from the authorities.
