I live in DC and I have friends in ny. We are looking for a good place in between (2-3 hour drive) our two cities to meet and do a day hike on the Appalachian. I know this will put us in Pennsylvania somewhere - what are some good spots to meet? Thanks.

Your goal is not realistic. The Mountains in Maryland that include the presidential retreat Camp David have the Appalachian Trail. It would take you 1 hour 15 min. to 1 hour 45 minutes to get there.
In Pennsylvania the A. T. run in a north easterly direction from out beyond Harrisburg by over an hour that would mean your friends traveling from ny would need to travel 2 hours 15 minutes down I -95 to philadelphia take the Blue route to the Pennsylvania Turnpike ( Another 20 minutes) take the turnpike to Harrisburg West exit nearly dead on 1 and a half hours.Then they would have to drive over an hour to get to trail :over 5 hours of driving total.
Say you meet near ny, it would take 2 hours 45 min. to 3 hours 15 minutes north on I-95 just to make Philadelphia then you would have to drive 2 to 2 and a half hours to meet your friends.

Where is a good spot to go crabbing in Maryland?

Does anyone know where a good spot is to go crabbing in Maryland. I lust moved to Silver Spring so as close as possible is prefered. I am also wondering where I can buy crab traps and crabbing supplies. Thanks!

Since you live close to Annapolis on the western Maryland shore.I would go that way if I were you.There are a bunch of public piers that you have access to if you don't have a boat or a friend that has one. You can use crab traps, trout lines with multiple baits or a single chicken neck on a string the old fashioned way. If you go online there are multiple websites for Maryland showing you the exact locations near you. The Maryland State Tourist board is one of the biggest that shows vacation spots, fishing, crabbing and camping locations for your area and the entire state.....You might want to do an online search on the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (Headquartered in Annapolis,MD) to get up to date info on regulations for crabbing, size, limit etc. Anne Arundel County has plenty of places to buy what you need.Check out the yellow pages for your area.Good Luck!
