Any Car Camping/Fishing places around Los Angeles?

Ervand

I really like to camp, but I don't like taking 4-5 hour trips to the places I know. Here is what I am really looking for... I want ALL of these thing to be present:

- Range: Not too far from LA (ready to put up up to 2 hours of driving)
- Shade: Should have lots of TREES for lots of shade. Forest preferably!
- Fishing/Swimming: Camping place should be a walk away from a FRESHWATER river.
- Fire/BBQ: Being able to make a camp fire.

I'll really appreciate all of your answers and help!!

Answer
You need to go to south fork campground on the santa ana river just past the north jenks lake rd on highway 38. It is a first come first serve camp ground right next to the river. it closes in the winter and the next closest to it is hart bar campground to the north or Barton flats to the south. there are some privately owned campgrounds down in the seven oaks area of the santa ana river as well. all first come first serve.

Another favorite of mine is camp williams off hwy 39 and on the east fork of the san Gabriel river however I have not been there since the fires it had good fishing and also gold panning.

these are the only riverside campsites that have all of the above there are more spots that you can hike into like fisherman's flat on deep creek or bear canyon both nice spots with plenty shade. Deep creek has the best swimming holes and a hot spring and some good hunting can be found in there as well shh don't tell nobody else ok?

Where is a great place for camping somewhat close to Los Angeles?

My bros and I have been looking for a place to go camping near Los Angeles. All we have been able to find so far is campgrounds where you camp 20 or 30 yards from your car..... Not fun... We are looking for something a little more rugged and out there. Yes I know it's California and us being centered in LA doesn't help things but there's gotta be somethin out there! Not looking for the Bear Grills experience (unless of course you know a place :P) just somewhere forestry where we have to hike to get back to our cars :D Any help?
