Just went on a trip to Vegas and met some teenagers who grew up there. Very interesting that kids are growing up in a city like Vegas. What's it like? Thanks just curious.

Answer
Well, I'm 17 and grew up here in Vegas.

Firstly, Las Vegas blvd or "the strip" is not like the rest of Vegas. That's actually a very small portion. There's a lot more to Vegas. There's red rock hiking and camping sites. Lake Mead, mt charleston and even churches. Not all wedding chapels haha.

When I've traveled to other places I find it odd that their stores aren't opened 24 hours or at least until 2am. We have very good food here and locals get 1/2 off the buffets. So I've been spoiled growing up with a huge variety of food not only at the buffets but 5 star restaurants as well.

It's very hot (90s-120s) for 7 months out of the year and cold (temperatures in the 60s, it's cold for us) for 4 months. There's about 2 weeks of middle-in between weather in April and October.

Our education system is ranked the lowest which is frustrating. I'd like to put it out there that yes there is some troubled kids here but there is everywhere. There are also many bright and smart kids who have potential but are brought down by our state's lack of care for education. It's sad and frustrating that my older brother graduated with a 4.3 GPA with all of the extra curriculars and was denied because he's from Vegas.

Vegas kids don't party on the strip every weekend and it's surprisingly hard to get alchool. They are strict with that.

On the positive side Vegas has some nice suburban neighborhoods and some fun but regular things to do. We go to movies (although the theaters are in casinos), go to high school football games and go eat after (at in n out or canes) we swim at hotel pools if we can get ahold of room keys which most of the time we can.

Yeah we live in Vegas and go get a limo and cruise the strip after prom and take pics at the Vegas sign. It doesn't mean we are all going to end up being drug addicts, alcoholics, strippers, or black jack dealers. I'm not saying you implied that but I'm just trying to voice my perspective out here.

LV is much more than casinos, drinks, and strip clubs as in terms of living.

Well, that's what it's like to grow up here.
