ok this is gonna sound like a weird question but some friends and i want to go on a kind of "survival weekend" where we go out with the most basic tools and just get away from of today's conveniences and we live in sheboygan Wisconsin, the thing is we don't want to go to a place with campsites, we want to be able to just go into the woods and pick our own place to camp. i don't mind driving like 50 miles but id prefer not to go to far
Answer
Dispersed camping is available in the Chequamegon and Nicolet National Forests in northern Wisconsin, several hours away from Sheboygan. Aside from that, I cannot think of any wild areas near Sheboygan for dispersed camping and backpacking. There are a few state parks near Sheboygan. Wisconsin does have some wildlife refuges and state forests that may allow overnight camping at remote sites. You will need to check with the DNR office in Madison or with local wildlife area managers.

Camping places in Wisconsin?
kathi201
I rarely ever go camping and my boyfriend and i are looking for a nice place. We do not have a trailer or anything like that so are there places where you can rent trailers? We are looking for a good location with a pool and a place to relax for a couple nights.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
