cooking while car camping?

QUEEN_GLB

I am going camping this weekend.

Can I take I heavy cast iron skillet, place it on my Weber Smokey Joe (the little one, typically used for tailgating) and make a bacon and eggs breakfast? Or do I have to do this over wood fire, like a fire pit?

I plan to do steaks, hamburgers, American breakfast, Smores in a cone, grilled corn, sandwiches
if you have any cool suggestions for camping. Food, fun ideas, games⦠I will take them. where I am happy to nap, read and relaxâ¦I am going with my techie ass hubby, and I have to keep him busy!
Well thank you all for your feedback. Most were helpful. Some a bit snarky and then there was the cowardly troll⦠uninformed and ignorant. But I appreciate all of the feedback

I am certain we will figure things out on our own, this is not rocket science, it is simply quite civilized camping. As an aside, I do not need to manage my husband.. at all. he is a brilliant capable individual. I was simply looking for a different point of view. This will be the first time camping, and I thought some nice people out there would have some great feedback based on their own experience. I will take the good bits and leave the feedback that was unneeded.

May your blessings continue

Answer
You could but that is not the most effective. Your going to need to think this through with clean up in mind and weight to benefit ratio, a cast iron skillet is heavy maybe too heavy for your little BBQ. If just the two of you a small weber is ideal but it also may not be approved to use. Summertime is also high fire danger time and some campgrounds do not allow charcoal BBQs or campfires so you may need to get a propane BBQ/cook stove. These can be found at a Walmart for around $30. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Char-Broil-Table-Top-Gas-Grill/16422835

Cooking a breakfast for easy clean up is best because recreation activity is on the mind everybody wants to do something, anything but dishes so one pan meals or no cooking breakfast at all using disposable paper plates and plastic ware. Pastries, fresh fruit and hot drink or cold whatever fits that bill.

Lunches do the same, sandwiches, fresh fruit again, chips, and more cool drinks are in order.

Dinner, here is the time to please, everyone is back in camp so helping hands are available and hungry bellies in need. If you can have a campfire than aluminum foil packed meals save clean up and fill a belly. http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=Aijjmm_7iizVnbv6h7W8kHebvZx4?fr=yfp-t-900-s&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&p=aluminum%20foil%20recipes

If no fires than stove top it is. With the above BBQ you can still grill that steak and boil for making any side dish you would at home such as rice, mashed potatoes, or any pasta dish, your grocers easy prep row is full of tasty options. Add some wine and presto dinner for two with the ambiance you can get no where else.

Road trip, places to go? and what about cost?

Me and some friends are planning a road trip this summer for about a week, were starting in San Diego and heading upstate to yosemite and back. Any cool places to go around there or on the way? we may want to back track around through nevada and down to the grand canyon. when would be the best time to go as well knowing gas prices will change. how much should we expect to pay for this? we'd be tent camping rather than hotels each night, possibly up to 10 people in 2 cars. also any good tips in general? ive gone on road trips in an RV before, but not car camping

Answer
If it is only 10 people going maybe you could get a mini van? that may be cheaper to pay for a rental mini van everyday then driving with 2 cars as far as gas. . . .it would be really hard to find out the exact cost as gas prices are never steady, but this summer would be a great time to go on a trip because gas is generally lower and now with that bush out of the office, gas prices have steadily been going down. And im sure will get around only 190 or so a gallon hopefully very soon!

Make sure have a us road atlas with you, dont rely on other peoples directions. Before a long trip make sure you have all the safety stuff etc, also because you are camping. It would be very very smart to plan ahead and know where you are camping each night.

I go to yahoo driving directions and just print the driving directions and keep them in my atlas,. The grand canyon is definately worth the drive, I hope to go back soon again myself, but that is a far way from your initial destination, this trip even though you will be staying in tents and not hotels, will set you back at least 800 bucks even more with food and gas, and personal items.

The more you plan the more you will be able to expect in cost. If you gave me alil more info i could be a lot more precise. . .

As far as some cool places to stop, I love wine country, lived there for many years, like santa rosa. There is alot of good food and great weather there. Its always nice to drive along the coast and stop at the beach whenever you feel like it.. . Maybe if you decide not to go to the grand canyon, you could take the coastal way back towards home. . .its always an awesome drive. . . i lived many years growing up in California, Santa rosa and Grass valley, CA.. .. and now i live in Oregon and i must say The oregon coast is soooo nice. . .i enclosed a few pics, the waves are aesome, the water can get dangerous, but its absoloutley beautifull but i know thats a ways out of your way, but the coast here is amazing. . . Id say if you took around 8-10 people, i would have each of you guys save up about 100 a peice just to be on the safe side!

I hope you have a great trip!
